Knowledge Work Teams & IT
Innovation in work organization has increasingly shifted to a focus on professional, managerial, and technical roles where
the core work of people is to interpret information and apply considerable theoretical knowledge, with intellective and social skills, to create new knowledge and provide new solutions.
Designing for this work involves many new challenges; ie., non-linear work processes, rapidly changing information technology, tensions between standardization and creative freedom, collaboration among
highly- individualized disciplines, employee retention issues, employee involvement in strategic management, increasing overlaps between worklife and homelife, virtual, geographically-dispersed work
teams with fluctuating membership, etc.
